Daniela Leska - Soprano
With a “vivacious personality and a vibrant voice with a warm glow,” Australian soprano D a n i e l a L e s k a (born Daniela Jedrzejczak) is a Singapore based soprano with over a decade in the global music industry. As Pamina in the Magic Flute with Opera Australia, Daniela was reviewed as “creating a beautiful sound that expresses both great joy and also deep sorrow.” She has been a soloist in Australia, Germany, Switzerland, China and Singapore in opera, music theatre and on the concert platform.
She has worked with Opera Australia, Singapore Lyric Opera, the Willoughby Symphony Orchestra, State Opera of South Australia, Adelaide Chamber Singers, Australian International Opera Company, Lyric Opera of Melbourne, Lieder Society of Victoria, Opera Projects Sydney, Co-Opera Inc. and Australian Global Entertainment.
Daniela has performed opera excerpts as Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro, Mimì and Musetta in La bohème, Laetitia in The Old Maid and the Thief, Micaëla in Carmen, Magda in La rondine, Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi, Zerlina in Don Giovanni, Cleopatra in Giulio Cesare and Gilda in Rigoletto. Her staged full-roles include Pamina, Papagena and a Sprite in The Magic Flute; Annina in La Traviata, Despina in Così fan tutte; Sophie in Werther, Barbarina in Le nozze di Figaro, Sorceress in Dido and Aeneas, The Tailor and Bianca-understudy in the Australian premiere of Goetz’s The Taming of the Shrew, Baker’s Wife in Into the Woods and Beth Moss in The Tender Land.
A soloist on the concert platform, Daniela has sung Handel’s Messiah, Mozart’s Requiem and her audiences have included dignitaries such as the President of the Republic of Poland, Mr Andrzej Duda and former Australian Prime Minister, Mr Kevin Rudd. A featured artist on ABC Classic FM, 3MBS, 5MBS and SBS Polish Radio, Daniela cantors and sings for official events, private events, weddings and funerals.
The recipient of two prestigious George Boland Scholarships, a Joan Sutherland Richard Bonynge Award in the Bel Canto Awards, an Opera and Arts Support Group Vocal Scholarship in the Sydney Eisteddfod and a STARS Award, Daniela has been a semi-finalist in the Herald Sun Aria. She has had the honour of working with Tanja Binggeli, Nicole Dorigo, Valeria Esposito, David Harper, Simon Kenway, Anthony Legge, Malcolm Martineau OBE, Stuart Maunder AM, Anthea Moller and Brett Waymark. As a peripatetic singing teacher, in addition to her private studio, Daniela has taught in Adelaide, Perth, Melbourne and Sydney; including at Melbourne Grammar School, Queenwood, Meriden and Ascham.
A fully-funded Pacific Opera Young Artist, Daniela holds a Graduate Diploma at Western Australia’s Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) and a Bachelor of Music with First-Class Honours at Adelaide’s Elder Conservatorium. [Full Biog]
